Pamela, a love story

Published on

***This is an excerpt of an unfinished and unpublished piece on the Pamela Anderson documentary released in 2023***

She was giving Charlize-Theron-uglied-up-to-the-max-to-play-Eileen-Wournos vibes. The contrast of her ‘interview’ look to the archived footage of 90s Pam, 00s Pam, even little kid and teenage Pam and more recently glammed up Pam for her Broadway stint in ‘Chicago’, was so stark at times, but boy did it work. It perfectly accented the pivotal point of this film, which is to clearly and undoubtedly separate the cartoonish, generously endowed, bombshell actress and sex-tape pioneer from the earthy, animal rights championing humanitarian, devoted mother and abuse survivor.

Perfection, all the way through.

The final stroke of genius in solidifying Pam staying true to her humble roots, being frugal and as far away from materialistic as one can get, is that closeup shot of a drugstore brand do-it-at-home hair dye box. Yes everyone – Pamela Anderson, perhaps the second most coveted blonde bombshell of all time, dyes her own her for some $10 bucks over the sink. True or not, it does kind of make me feel silly about the amount of money I keep leaving at the salon every few months, and still never feeling quite happy with my flavour of blondeness. Sorry I digressed, this is clearly not about me. Pam couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the way she looks and that is very, very obvious. Truth is, she looks damn incredible.

Pamela and Tommy Lee’s crushingly hot obsession to the core love story made her life happen – what gave her life and what continues to keep her as alive as she seems today is the incredible love and more than that – the rock solid support she has in her two ‘baby’ boys – Brandon and Dylan Lee.

Oh my, are these boys the epitome of unconditional love givers! And not just in the aspect of loving Pam as their mom, but they are so understanding and protective of her as a woman – a woman who has not had it easy and has been treated painfully low for much of her life – they have somehow managed to forego any type of standard and expected role definition of just sons or children. They are so much more to her, in essence they are the partners she’s been craving her entire life, her true matches, her other halves, the best of her. The best for her. It is truly one of the most powerful takeaways from this wild journey of a film.
